I am directed by the Board of Trade to inform you that

they are making enquiries as to the German and Austro-Hungarian

shareholdings in the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation,

which is incorporated in Hongkong, and they will be obliged

if you will be so good as to move the Secretary of State to

cause them to be furnished with any information which is

available at Hongkong with regard to the shares of the

Corporation held by German and Austro-Hungarian subjects

resident in enemy territory and elsewhere respectively.
